Here is a chart that will help you decide:

Size & Items That Will Fit Inside

5’ x 5' = 10 to 15 small boxes; Ideal for small furniture

10’ x 10’ = 20 to 25 boxes; Ideal for studio contents

10’ x 20’ = 35 to 40 medium boxes; Ideal for 3-4 bedroom home

10’ x 30’ = 40 to 45 medium boxes; Ideal for 4 bedroom home; Large appliances, patio furniture

10’ x 40’ = 50 medium boxes; Ideal for 5 bedroom home; Small
vehicle or boat

Here are a few great tips:

• Make sure your boxes are not too heavy.
• Fill boxes to the top – if necessary fill with newspaper. A half filled box cannot support weight and could collapse if more boxes are placed on top. Remember newspaper ink can leave smudges, so only use it to cushion items that are already wrapped. Un-inked newsprint is also available in any moving supplies store.
• Think of the seasonality of your items and group items of similar season together.
• Treat metal objects (such as tools) with rust protector.
• If storing in a storage locker, choose a size based on accessibility.
• Store heavy items on the bottom and lighter items on top.
